CellGenix organizes an International Expert Symposium on “Chances and Challenges of Cell-Based Therapeutics”, May 16th and 17th in Freiburg, Germany
Over the last decade the field of cellular therapies has moved forward substantially, mostly driven by scientific discoveries in stem cell research and advancements in cell culture technology. Today a multitude of cell types can be cultured and their usefulness and efficacy for the treatment of diverse human diseases are being evaluated in preclinical and clinical studies throughout the world. The field opens a lot of chances for new treatments but there are still challenges and hurdles to be overcome.
CellGenix GmbH has therefore organized an international expert symposium on the “Chances and Challenges of Cell-Based Therapeutics” which was hold at their headquarters in Freiburg last week, Monday and Tuesday 16th and 27th of May 2011. We have brought together opinion leaders form academia and industry as well as regulatory
experts from Europe, USA and Australia to present their work and share with us their perspectives on developments in cellular therapies” says Professor Felicia Rosenthal, CEO of CellGenix GmbH. “Our aim was to encourage open exchange of ideas and to stimulate scientific creativity and furthermore to enhance and initiate future collaborations. “
The scientific presentations covered immunotherapeutic approaches using Dendritic cells, T-cells and NK-cells as well as approaches using regenerative medicine with adipose derived stem cells or even embryonic stem cells and so-called induced pluripotent stem cells. In addition regulatory issues for cellular therapies from the different regions were discussed.
The scientific program was complemented with a wine tasting at the "Weingut Trautwein" in Bahlingen which convinced everyone that the Kaiserstuhl is one of the best wine growing regions of Germany.
